Game Night Planner
The Game Night Kit turns one list into random teams, turn order, and a printable schedule you can hand to the group.
Add a little extra
These open in a new tab so you don't lose your plan. Names are not passed to them.
Example: plan a game night for eight people
For a pairs tournament, keep the eight sample names above, choose In teams and select 4 teams. Make the plan once and keep that draw for the evening. You get four teams of two, a team turn order, and three rounds with two matches each: six matches in total, so every team meets every other team once.
Here is one possible schedule. Your random draw can differ; this example does not predict which friends the planner will pair.
- Round 1: Team 1 vs Team 4; Team 2 vs Team 3.
- Round 2: Team 1 vs Team 3; Team 4 vs Team 2.
- Round 3: Team 1 vs Team 2; Team 3 vs Team 4.
With one table, play the two matches in each round one after the other. With two tables, they can run together. The planner does not assign tables, start times or game lengths. Agree those with the group before printing.
Change the plan to match the activity
For charades, two teams of four may be a better fit: use the team turn order rather than treating the single fixture as a tournament. For individual play with eight people, the round robin has seven rounds and 28 matches, which may be too much for one evening. A turn order alone can be enough.
If only seven people arrive and you choose individual play, there are seven rounds with three matches and one person sitting out each round. Each person sits out once. See the round-robin schedule generator for individual fixtures, or the random team generator if you only need groups.
Use Print / save PDF after making the plan, or download the text and send it to the group. Changing a name clears the old result; generate and export a new plan after late arrivals rather than sharing an outdated list.
A plan, not another group project
Use the teams and turn order for party games, a club meetup or a tabletop evening. The round-robin section is optional: it gives each pair one meeting, with byes when the number of players or teams is odd. It does not book courts, set clock times, record results or calculate standings. If you have one table, run the matches in the order listed.
Every click of Make our plan makes a new random draw. Copy, download or print a plan before changing it. Editing a name or option clears the old result so you cannot accidentally share a stale roster.
Will this keep my group's names?
No saved roster is created by the site. Names and the generated plan remain in this page's memory; use Clear names before leaving a shared device, since browsers can restore page or form state. A file, clipboard copy or printout contains the names you explicitly choose to export; share it only with the people who should see them.
Can I send a private link to the plan?
Not in this version. Copy the plain-text plan or save a PDF. A link to this page opens the empty/default planner, not your roster. Private invitations need a different design.
Does the turn order also set the match schedule?
The shuffled order seeds the fixtures, but they serve different activities. Use the turn order when people take turns at one task. Use the rounds when pairs compete against each other. A participant has no more than one match in a round.
